About US

The Piedmont Garden Railway Society is a group of Garden Railroaders and Folks Interested in Garden Railroading. We are scattered across the North Carolina Piedmont; Upstate South Carolina, and the North Carolina Mountains. The Society was originally formed in 1993. After being disbanded for a short time it was reformed in 2004. We have members with Operating Layouts, Layouts under construction, and those that are thinking and planning. We have 2 main meetings a year and open houses at members layouts throughout the year.  Since we are scattered over a wide area we have monthly local Train Lover Lunches in various locations. Please contact us to find out the date and time for a TLL in your area.

Mission

The Club’s mission is to promote and to further the enjoyment of large scale model railroading among its members, their families and their guests as well as the public at large. We accomplish this by sponsoring open houses at the homes of our members, holding Track Day events, when we work on members’ railroads upon their requests, and attending other railroad related events. Our members provided support for the development of the Rocky Cove Railroad; a garden railroad display at the North Carolina Arboretum just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Bent Creek near Asheville. Our members also support the indoor railroad display at the Mission Children’s Hospital facility in South Asheville.

More information

New members are welcome at any time. A membership application form is located on the JOIN US page. PGRS Bylaws are available for your review; contact the Secretary/Treasurer, Don Watson, docwatson@morrisbb.net, to request a copy.  We have approximately seventy members in central and western North and  upstate South Carolina. Many of our members do not have a railroad but join and belong in order to get ideas and practical information on planning and building a railroad.
